Why You Should Choose Course Over College ?

September 28, 2021

It’s right when people say that you are the author of your life story because, at the end of the day, you are the choices you make and your choices ultimately affect your story. If not destiny, you have a hold on your decisions and choices. If anything life ever taught me is to be wise with the decisions you are taking because that in future will affect your success.

While creating a list of colleges, many students face this dilemma: should they choose a renowned college and adjust with whatever course they are getting or should they prioritise course over college .

Marla Malcolm Beck, CEO of Bluemercury in an interview for The New York Times said that she always reminds her students that “nobody ends up in the first job they choose out of college, so just find something that is interesting to you, because you tend to excel at things you’re interested in. But just go do it. You have nothing to lose.”

The course of your choice defines you, it becomes your identity, it is what you held close to you in your heart, it is what will carry you on its shoulder and will prepare you to shine in this fast paced world, so is it wise to leave your identity, your dream, your possibility of a distinct career behind, just for a bigger college brand?

As Rancho mentioned in 3 Idiots, Sachin Tendulkar is The Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar is The Lata Mangeshkar because of the fields they chose, which allowed them to excel more. Let’s try to figure out why a course over college is a wise decision:

  1. At the end of the day, knowledge is power – We all learned in school how knowledge is the most powerful weapon of everyone. Knowledge never discriminates, neither does it demotivate, it hugs everyone who approaches it. The knowledge you will gain while studying will give you a voice and a capability to prove yourself, it will give a concrete platform to your building of success. The course of your choice will give you the knowledge and power to stand tall in this world.
  2. College may be the entry point but the course is your journey towards a prosperous destination – That is where many people are misunderstood, thinking college is the ultimate decision as it will give you a promising placement in a big company. Placements depend on your academic excellence but also on your excellence in a particular field of study. A lack of interest in what you are pursuing might affect your academic performance overall. Also a good placement is not exactly the definition of a successful career, your career will be shaped with your passion, your commitment and your hard work and not with the brand of the college.
  3. Lastly, once you select your course – Research and hold a key foresight that will the course of your choice show progress in the occupationally occupied future?Research is the key, do your own research and take your own notes. No one wants to go back or have a life filled with regrets, so whatever your course is, try to get a foresight of how the specific course will hold place in the coming future. Sometimes a promising course might not hold a securing position so try to analyse that and do the research of your own.

World is full of opportunities, but not exactly full of chances, so whenever you get a chance, choose wisely and pave your path towards success. We at TCC understand students, their choices, their passions, we hear their story and then we help them figure out all the options that are widely available for them.
